We've recently moved here and have no more need for my car. Obviously can't sell her here and really don't want to pay the outrageous duties, so I need info on how to ship her back to the States as I really don't want to drive her back. The trip was horrendous on the brakes and God only knows how many more topes she can handle (or me for that matter!!). Either land or sea transport would work. Just looking for a good, reputable company with decent rates. If there is such a thing......

damn topes.

I'm assuming you're on AC? Why not sell it on the mainland. I'm sure there are places to sell cars there. eek

assumption correct. but i was told at customs that i couldn't sell it in this country unless i paid the duties. and since she's a 2003, they want quite a bit of my cash for it...

Phone my pal Andy Butchko at Belizean Textiles in Ladyville. He gets shipping containers into Belize City each month and knows the ins and outs at the port and customs.

What's the situation if you sell it in Mexico? If that's not as onerous, mayhap you'd be willing to drive it that far.

MX is way more harsh!!! i could face either having my car confiscated and paying hefty penalties or jail time. but even with my permit that took over 4 hours to get, it is still a giant no-no. apparently they have a problem with people bringing cars from the States illegaly to sell them.....

will check reaper's pal and see what he says. thx for the suggestion. if anyone else has any more input, please keep responding. would like to get several quotes/options in case i can save money so i can spend more here!! laugh

Ask a beach bum to drive it back for you. It may even make it.

Depending on the type of car, I'm sure you can easily make your money back on the duties if you sell it over on the mainland. Its not going to be too cheap shipping it back to the States and then having to deal with it back there while you are living here.

Shipping back to the US will usually be under 1,000 US. Ship out of Belize City, contact one of the shipping companiesw there. We used
Hyde shipping to bring our in and they did a great job. We used Jackson this last trip and they scratched our van all up. Very poor service from them.
