We recently purchased a lot on AC with plans to build a small house on it after we retire. We'd also like to purchase a boat, like a 26' Nordic Tug to do some exploring around the area and island hopping. Is there a boat builder in Belize that builds this type? Are there restrictions as to bringing a boat in? What about dock space? Do we ask someone that has a dock if we can tie up for a fee? Thanks.

Strongly advise that you spend some time on the water here before you pick out a boat.
There are some good boat builders on Ambergris Caye, Belize City and Sarteneja - probably in other locations as well. As for a "Nordic Tug" - the name suggests that maybe it's not in sinc with the Caribbean ..... but maybe they are fine, since Boston Whalers seem to work here pretty well.
Where is your lot on Ambergris Caye? Location will have a lot to do with your boat selection.
Piers are LONG discussion. Put as briefly as possible - ask your neighbor and work something out. Forget about researching rules and laws, just find a reasonable person who has a pier in a reasonable location and make a reasonable arrangement with them. Be advised that piers wear out and fall down, so no agreement will be forever.

The lot is located by Gaz Cooper's and Mata Chica. The "Nordic Tug" is supposed to be a good coastal cruiser. Diesel inboard, galley, head and bed. Economical to operate and stable in the water.

Just curious, Did you use a real estate agent for buying the property? Does it have electricity and water?

My husband and myself have been thinking about buying a piece of land there also.

Well, it seems that we will be "pretty near" neighbors. We are about a mile (I think) south of Mata Chica, and hoping to spend some retirement months there... in a few years.

Just about anybody/everybody here who gets a diesel inboard gets rid of it after loosing time and money. I have heard many many reasons why such a boat "should" work fine here, and all of the resons sound pretty well through out - - "but" whether it's lack of parts, mechanics, silty shallow water or yamaha goblins .......... the things just don't seem to work out in the long run.
Your lot is in a lovely area. There are two substantial piers under construction north of Gaz's right now. You may be able to work out something with one of them when you get your house and boat.

PS - to the boarder who asked if Sara's lot had power and water .......... power yes. Water comes from the sky or the ground for those of us in this area. Water from the town system does not run north of the cut. If you catch enough rain and store it properly you will have no need o other sources. A bath in rain water is heavenly.

Deb, we got our lot through Amanda Syme (Sunrise Realty). We found her to be very helpful. It was our 2nd visit down and we really fell in love with the people, atmosphere and area. Diane's right, we have electricity, haven't decided on digging a well, collecting rain water or both. Some of the things you need to decide, of course, are location (near the airport, town, or quieter, more remote area) how much $, bay side or beach side. Diane is also in the realty business.
