So how about all these visitors who rent carts and drive them around, and obviously have never even heard of a Belizean driver's licence. Are they breaking the law?

The test is taken at transport, downstairs from Town Council. I'm not sure but I'd assume you'd need residency or at the least a work permit to get a BZ license.

To get a Belize license you need to be in the country for 12 months before you can apply. If you have a US license all you need to do is take a written test. Go to transportation office and they give you a 4 page study questions. All questions on the test are in the booklet, easy test if you memorize the booklet. They only give the tests certain day of the week.

We were in country 2 weeks when we applied for and got our Belizean driver's license. You do not need residency.
Do study the test booklet!

Island Dog, I'm sorry to hear they have not found your cart. I hate to use your experience as an example but it could help a lot of other people.

FOLKS, if you are buying or currently own a cart I highly recommend that you put a fitted key ignition in your cart. If you don't you are leaving yourself wide open. Everyone on the island has a standard cart key. Cost: I don't remember exactly, but about 100.00BZ will buy & get the ignition installed. Electric carts ignitions are cheaper I believe. I have a gas cart. It's worth every penny people. Mine had a fitted key ignition right after I drove it off the lot. Captian Sharks carries them, but specify gas or electric. Protect yourself, 100.00BZ is cheap insurance in my opinion.

I picked Island Dog up the morning after he got ripped off on foot downtown passing out reward posters. His story was that he went in a store to buy butter & was gone less then 3 minutes & it was gone. He took the keys out but it was not locked up. Mistake number two, it had brand new battery's in it. Someone knew it or raised the seat & saw them. That will get one ripped off in a minute.

Good luck, Dog, I hope they find it. If they do I can almost assure you the battery's will be gone. When you buy new bats go the extra distance & get a fitted ignition installed at the same time.
