It's not just on the island or Belize, you can pick it up on any beach or even walking in the dirt anywhere.

it is SELF-LIMITING... not easily treated. In fact, most references say no treatment really works.

More cited case histories mention rain forests than sand. possible in Belize that many cases come from tours than from beaches.

YA MON... dogs and cats poop in sand, dirt, whatever...
Rain forests have other animals who poop all over too.
Does your kid have an an uncovered sandbox as this could also present a problem as well.

I'm told that people with open cuts/sores or who have diabetes are far more prone to this than are normal people with normal healthy feet. Attention to daily foot hygene does sound a good idea.

We have treated larvae migrans many times, the medicine preferred has been Mintezol (Thiabendazole) tablets or liquid for children. Always good results.Making a paste with the tablets and applying it to the area as well as taking the tablets orally does a good job at getting rid of it.
