I went on the tour a few years ago. The ruins are good. Not as spectacular as Tikal in Guatemala but very good. What makes this trip as good as it is is the travel to and from. When I went, they picked us up at the dock in front of the hotel in San Pedro in a small boat. We then boated to the mainland and up the river. Along the way, we paused to eat a light breakfast in the boat, stopped at various spots to look at some wildlife. We got off the boat at a little village called Bomba (sp?). There you can buy trinkets from the locals while waiting for the bus. We get on the bus for a ride to the next river. Then onto another boat for the ride up that river and to the ruins. I don't remember the operator but our tour guide was a guy named Daniel. He was really good. Someone on this board should be able to tell you who he is with.

I would imagine Buzz is referring to Tanisha Tours. They seem to be hugely admired on here so that may be the way to go HavinFun. We have used SEArious Adventures on three seperate trips and thought they were wonderful. Willie, the owner was terrific. I agree with Buzz, the trip there and back is lots of fun and a nice traditional Belizean lunch is a nice added touch. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself no matter who you choose.

Searious also does a great job of Lamanai. Went with them a couple of years ago, and plan to again this year. Went to Tikal on day trip last year. It was magnificent, but overall for a day trip Lamanai is much better. Next time 2-3 days at Tikal!

Seaduced is wonderful. I have done the tour with them about 5 times through the years... in fact we are trying to get a trip together for Sunday so please call them if interested. I have a friend down here with me and he has never been to the island, or Belize for that matter. I have been with another group but it was simply not as wonderful.... particularly they talk a lot about the Mayan culture.

Debbie, I (finally) just went on the Lamanai trip last Saturday with Seaduced and it was fabulous! Devon and Leon took us by boat from the dock over to Boomba village, had breakfast, then Ernesto drove the bus over to the new river where Eddie took us by boat up to Lamanai. Eddie does a fab howler monkey imitation that had the alpha male booming at Lamanai. All 4 of the guys were wonderful, had a great time, would highly recommend them and they did a great job of making sure we didn't get dehydrated on the way back......LOL

We used Daniel from Tanisha (sp?) Tours and he was great. Our best day trip of our stay. His son Josh is really a good assistant too. Top Notch!
