What is the best means of currency while on the island? Cash, debit/credit card, or traveler's checks?

Where is the best exchange rate: US or Belize (I'm sure that's a no brainer but that's way too much math for me!)?

Any other advice for us? June 16-22. Gosh dang I'm excited!

Cash or travellers checks. We've never had any trouble with either. We generally use travellers checks. The exchange rate is fixed at $2 BZ to $1 US. Sounds simple but might confuse you at times.

Hi kda, these days you can pay for travelers checks that come in the form of a prepaid "credit" card. Travelers checks are becoming harder to cash for the merchants, as the fraud level is high. Folks pay merchants with travelers checks which takes 30 days to clear at the bank. While the check is waiting to clear, the traveler who paid with the check reports it "stolen" and the merchant is left out the money. If you have a debit card, it is easy to withdraw $$ from your account. There are two banks on the island now with international ATM services.
