My wife "to be" and I are scheduled to arrive at Mata Chica on October 10th. I have submitted several e-mails directly to Mata Chica inquiring on their status after Hurricane Dean. I have tried to contact the resort via phone to no avail. I did receive a one sentence response saying that they will be reopening on the 1st of October. The short response and lack of details has raised some concerns. We would appreciate any insight as to why they are "reopening" then while others (ie Portofino, Azul, etc.) have already reopened. Also, which adventures/trips would be considered "a must" while visiting besides diving/snorkeling.

Again, any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Some resorts close during Sept. to renovate or allow needed vacations for the staff (or both). Knowing how Mata Chica operates, I'm sure when they reopen, they will be newer, better and even more luxurious than before. Mata Chica is an amazing place and one of the nices two upscale resorts in the area (along with Azul). You'll love it!

Thanks SIN, your response is much appreciated. We have been looking forward to visiting for some time now. Glad to hear we pikced a quality destination. You would think that they would give us some more information, like it is a "scheduled closing for Sept. or that repairs would be complete." Oh well, thanks again for your insight. We are definitely going to eat at Mambo and Azul's restaurant while there. Are there any other restaurants that you would highly recommend? Thanks.

I love Rojo Lounge at Azul. Capricorn and Rendevous are other favorites and a short cart or island ferry ride to the south allowing a nite cap in town. Mambo at Mata Chica is as far north as I like to journey for a meal, but you are right there! Playing pool while the kids enjoy the jacuzzi with down tempo techno is always fun! It's pricey, but worth it. I wonder if any local moderately priced kitchens are up in that area yet?

We are also visiting the first week of October and Vivian at Rojo's let me know that they will be closed for month of October. Does anyone know if this has changed? I'd hate to miss out on my Frozen Mojito!!!
