Unfortunately everybody on this island now has to suffer the barge noises. They run all day, all night pretty much everyday.

There was once an agreed to schedule with the Caribbean Queen (Depot) whereby they would agree to only load and off load between the hours of 7am and 7pm. I have no idea is they still stick to that rule.

Progress definitely has its downside.

But anybody that is complaining that they need the roads fixed, or they want bottled water, or construction materials or non-perishible food stuffs needs to understand that these barges are only running because of your demands. The barges are providing a much need service.

Again, less than ideal situations prevail, but unless somebody lobbies, and follows through with legislation and enforcement, things will continue to be inconvenient and disruptive.

Making a difference starts with the first step. And that first step doesn't mean riling up people on the message board - it means formulating a plan for a practical solution and then following through.

Making police reports takes a whole pile of patience, but the system can work if do it the right way. Good things come to those who wait!

Follow up report:
1. I also called one of the executives at Reef Village about 2:15 and held the phone up to the window and he could hear the noise. He's a good guy and I have had a nice friendly relationship with him (so no names please).
2. At 2:30 I sent an e-mail to Inspector Patt outlining the situation.
3. The next day I went into the police station as was greeted promptly and politely.
4. An officer came to the desk and asked me questions and wrote everything down (including my age!)
5. Inspector Patt came out of his office and thanked me for the e-mail.
6. Patt signaled to the Tourist Patrolmen to come over and he asked them to follow up on my complaint. One of them was a Mr. Roaches whom I had met a few nights before. The two patrolmen got on their bikes and headed north.
7. By the time I got home they were beside the golf cart of the supervisor of the Reef Village project. He started out being defensive saying they had to get their supplies in. When I explained that I was not objecting to that I was objecting to the amount of noise in the middle of the night. After hearing me out he was adamant that this was unacceptable and their guests would be just as upset as was I.
8. I have talked to a number of people who are also disturbed by this, two of them saying they hear it clear down at Wet Willys.
9. I intend to follow up on this next week.
What's that saying ". . . when good men do nothing?"

The only thing needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
