Mr. & Mrs. KC Jayhawk, TQ and I stopped by Sweet Basil's one day last week, Friday, I think. Met Jewels and Tyler, both very nice and very welcoming; learned that we lived about 3 blocks from each other in Fresno - small world. It was early and none of us were very hungry so we ordered drinks - very well-stocked bar - and then Jewels offered us ceviche, not yet on the menu and "made fresh when you order it." It was tastey, but it wasn't what I'd consider ceviche - the fish was freshly cooked, rather than marinated in lime. The prep method made the whole dish warm instead of the usual well-chilled dish you get when you order ceviche. Jewels let us sneak a peek at the new menu and there are some fun looking dishes in the works.
It looks like they have some great plans for the place, and the clean up job thus far is a great start, but it's still a pretty casual place, and I told Jewels that the prices on the new menu seem steep to me, especially for a place just starting over and trying to attract customers.
We also all agreed that the bathroom directions could use better sinage, that's a lot of stair climbing and confusion after a Belikin or 7.

They really are very excited and I wish them well!
