Then, what I hear you saying, Leah Ann, is you condone his actions. If you aren't against his behavior, you are supporting it, or at the very least, tolerating it. ...guess we all learn something from this board, huh?

Well, the good NY Governor has resigned - effective this Monday.
Personally, I think the guy has been a sleazebag for years.

I'm happy that he resigned, not that it impacted my life, since I don't live in NY. I really feel badly for his family. How horrible that they have to be affected by this. The first time he "messed up" perhaps was an accident...but the next $75,000 worth was very deliberate. At least he owned it and didn't lay blame on anyone else..or deny it...he's still a sleeze bag!

I neither condoned nor condemed him. What I said is that it is not helpful to be judgmental about the actions of others. I'm willing to venture you know absolutely nothing about this man or his background other than what the media has portrayed in the last few days, yet you are quick to condem his "morals" based on these reports. "Morals," especially in the sexual arena, are pretty subjective. Generally, people hear what they want to hear and I wouldn't expect you to pass on a chance to disagree with me, even if you had to make inaccurate assumptions to do so.

My judgement of Spitzer is based on my being in a committed relationship, with someone I trust not to do something so stupid. Our marriage is something I take very seriously, and I expect my husband to act in a way that would never disrespect me, or cause me to feel less than the center of his life. Just as I would never do anything to cause him to doubt me or my commitment to him. As for me getting my information from the media, I admit that I have read and listened to most everything related to this subject. I usually give the underdog the benefit of the doubt, until something happens to make me rethink the issues. In this case, I would probably say the first encounter with his prostitute was perhaps experimental, maybe a mistake, definitely a lack of good judgement. So, what is the excuse for the rest of the encounters? Then, there is the double standard issue. Don't do as I do, do as I say? What is that all about? And then, what about the legal issues of transporting people across state lines for sexual acts? I understand there are laws against this. So, let's recap what we have: 1) a married man having trysts with a prostitute, not once, but many times. 2) A governor who fought against prostitution, condemning those who frequented these establishments and those who profited from these types of businesses, and 3) an attorney who knowing breaks the law hoping not to get caught. Hmmm...uh huh...maybe you are right... let's not judge yet. In my humble opinion, I still think he is a skuzzball, and did the right thing by resigning. But, in your defense, if everyone played by the rules, you wouldn't have much of a job, would you?

I personally don't condone his actions, but I protect his right to partake in any personal pleasure he sees fit... so far as the law permits or his willingness to accept the consequence from the law if broken. And of course if he's willing to accept the consequences certain to come from his family. My problem with Spitzer was that he did so while at the same time trying to take down the same organizations. He opened himself up to bribery, blackmail and so much more. That is unacceptable behavior for an Attorney General (and later Governer) who is in the position of such great power.
