In Mexico I always pulled this one.

As they are walking towards you, ask them if you can borrow 5 bucks.

They are thrown from their game and do not know how to respond, as you continue to walk on by.

The next time they see you, they usually don't bother with a pitch.

Concealed handgun permit #200800086. Of course, it's hard to completely hide a Kimber Custom TLE II in your Speedo, but it seems to keep them away.

I was going to get a life, but this was easier.

I am guessing just the speedo would be enough to do the trick.

Interesting, Scubalady, that you say the time share peddlers are not to be ten feet from their booth....

We spent our annual week at a condo at Sunset Beach two weeks ago. Loved being in Belize again and really enjoyed our location on the south end.

On a jaunt up to the north end in our golf cart, we were stunned to see the development at Reef Villas, since it had just begun construction when we were in AC in 2006. The peddler's hit us as soon as we drove by the facility, but we just kept on going. We noticed a golf cart with two men following us on our journey north, which passed us when we stopped to look at some orchids along the way. We pulled up to an open beach area just south of Captain Morgan's to take in the view, and the men in the golf cart drove up to us and launched their sales attack. They were heavily peddling Reef Villas before we were able to do more than smile, and continued their spiel, even though we told them we weren't interested. The whole experience was very annoying, and, is anything, turned us off on the idea of taking a closer look at the place!
These two were definitely a few miles further than ten feet from their booth!

This works with almost anyone you don't want talking to you.
Except the police? For some reason it never works with the police?

Too funny! I'm still sticking with standing real close and holding out my arm to ask, "Does this rash looks contagious?" People seem to move away pretty fast. wink Nothing seems to deter cops! laugh

I can never remember which is better . . . safe? . . . or sorry?

We just left San Pedro ourselves after staying at Ramon's for 10 days. I wouldn't recommend anyone staying there, personally. The beach was gorgeous and you can't beat the open air dining (although you can find it elsewhere). However, the service was terrible. They were the opposite of accommodating. In fact, we ran into several people who had problems with their bills and it was a mess to clean up. We were there over the big 12-hour blackout - and it happened to be on our wedding day. Needless to say about 3 hours before the wedding when neither the power nor the water was on I was a bit of a mess - but folks merely shrugged and said it wasn't their fault. I knew that, but I still needed to find a place where I could see to get ready. Our room was in one of the double-story cabanas, and it smelled like mold whenever we ran the air conditioner.

I'll return to San Pedro as it was a wonderful place to visit, but I'll steer folks away from Ramon's.
