I believe that may be a different monkey. I hear there are several on the island. It may have the same name. Who knows.

his name was pancho.

i had a long good relationship with the good monkey that was there previously. used to sit in the big tree in spanish's yard from 6am til 8 or so with the monkey. no one was awake in the house. just me and spanish's monkey and the beach at //ambergriscaye.com/cariblandia . but that one got taken back by the folks at marinas.

the next time down there was a different monkey. he was named pancho. i asked spanish if i could get into the cage with him. he said no, he's not good for that. so we chatted for awhile and a bit later spanish says "you really want to get into the cage with the monkey?" i said sure. so i got in. and a couple hours later got out..... it was not stressy for me, tho the folks outside were a bit perplexed. my wife and spanish and his buddies tried fruit, cigarettes, all the things he loves the most to coax him away from me but i was his best new toy. as long as i stayed relaxed we played, i rubbed his head, hugged him, massaged his feet. but if i tried to get him off me he flared his teeth big time and got a couple small chunks off my head early on before i decided that wasn't a good way to proceed.

then he leaned a bit away from me after a couple hours and i used that weight shift to dump him and run outside. then spanish says you gotta go back in and close the inner door. so back inside i went to do that and then ran back outside. i got the biggest hug ever from both my wife and spanish, he said he wasn't so sure it was gonna come out ok.

no big deal in my book.

Yeah - I remember the "good" monkey from years ago. I think I also have a photo of him on that tree branch. This other Pancho would usually get a chance to get out and someone would carry him around. I could tell he really liked the attention and who wouldn't when you're locked in a cage all the time. No wonder he didn't want you to leave. I felt really bad about him. The ending was NOT what I wanted. I was hoping for better for him. He didn't deserve that at all. The fact is - he didn't deserve any of it. frown

glad you are doin alright.. i had a nasty infection from one facial cut but no stitches at all.

probably could have used a couple but that was before i started carrying around a "sewing kit." a lil mayan girl just opened up her eye in placencia once and a stitch kit would have saved her much BRIGHT WHITE scarring above her eye. since then i always keep some needles and thread around.

As my wife (rutgers2 on this site) already mentioned we were spending our last morning at Banana Beach that morning and saw when they brought the monkey over. She offered to call SAGA but that was deemed unnecessary.

The monkey was being very friendly with a large group of visitors, particularly one young man and a lot of the kids who were petting him.

On our way to breakfast we stopped down to see him up close, I crouched down to get a look at him and he walked over to me and put his arm over my shoulder and touched his head to mine. Kind of like giving a hug and a kiss.

Later I was back up on our balcony and he swung through, literally. The crowd was mostly breaking up but some people were staying to take photos from the beach.

As I look at our vacation photos now it saddens me to know that the animal reaching out to me in the pictures met an ugly death a short while later. At the time it was very well behaved so I was shocked to read how it went down.

I just wish something else could have been done to pacify it without hurting it. Just a terrible turn of events.

To continue connecting the dots...I believe the "good monkey" was bought by my neighbor Arnie from Marinas. Arnie named the monkey "Ricky Lake" and she is indeed a "good monkey". Arne gave Ricky to Mathias...the golf cart mechanic behind Pedro's Inn. As previously mentioned...it was always a job to rid yourself of Ricky, once she got all four around.

Its not easy to turn a innocent, blundeoned monkey...into a frolic amongst the lilacs. But...that's what I do...
