Having only ever visiting in October when an umbrella was always a necessity, is there enough rain (showers or heavier) in January to warrent packing one?

I would just bring some of those little plastic poncho things (you can also buy them here). The rain can come on fast and furious, so these are a little more handy than umbrellas...
