Thanks for your honesty and time to document your experience! Perhaps the active board posters will accept your experience and stop "shooting the messenger"....

It sounds like the zip line or cave tubing folks raised their prices.
Danny has no control over that.

Apart from Daniel (who I've never done a trip with) what other differences between Tanisha and, say, Excalibur, that would account for the over $30 price difference for the same trip? Is it just quality of the specific guide (that you may or may not get in the end, it turns out), better boat, etc? Most everyone seems to agree they're the better company, but I'm interested in knowing quantifiable reasons for why. It's good to have the other side of the coin too... not every company is perfect, it's nice to have a balanced picture.

I believe the error was in his office as it was just a matter of hours that the price change occured and I believe you should stick with the price you give a customer.

Perhaps if we have done the ruins we would have had a better experiance, I have only seen great reports about his knowledge of that trip. Every experiance and situation is different.

We did not have a positive experience with this company either and we were guided by a Daniel as well. Can you confirm the last name to make sure it is the same one? We went in 2005.

the "office" is Mrs. Nunez.

i have never used excaliber, and do not know anyone who has, so cannot comment on that. i do know these two things - daniel's expertise is in nature & history, (i suspected he may subcontract something like a zipline tour), and while at lamanai, another popular tour group arrived after us, and left long before us. our tour was maybe an hour longer. the home-cooked lunch rocked too (my 12 yr old who eats nothing went back for seconds!).

otherwise, one can either assume one 'gets what they pay for', or go with the best price. strictly your call.

On the general topic of worthwhile mainland tours, a while ago I tried to go with a group to Xunantunich but failed as the river crossing was out. We quickly regrouped and went to Cahal Pech instead, and I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Not many people visit here and it isn't remotely as overtly impressive as Xunantunich because it hasn't been excavated as much, but it has way more history and historical importance. And as it's not a tourist honeypot you can get really expert guiding - we had an archeologist who has actually excavated part of it. I've been twice now and the second time was even more engrossing than the first. Highly recommended.

Are mainland tours to the ruin sites easily accessable from AC?
We are looking at going to Belize in June.
