So fishermen/ladies,
I've bow fished before, and played with spear fishing. Im SUPER interested in getting real good at the spear fishing though. Has anyone done this or know where you can, or if you are even allowed to? I've youtubed dozens of videos from belize spear fishing so I assume its done. Just wanted to know the real laws for it.
Do i need same license as a fishing license?
Certain protected fish (obviously only stick what you want to eat)?
What about lobsters, i've seen pics and videos of people just lifting up rocks and sticking HUGE lobsters, gathering dozens in one outting to freeze and eat later (or sell)?
I've read of a lobster season, is that when they are just around, or big, or legal to catch?

I know this isnt belize, but the videos I have saw said they were. I believe they are using a hawiaan sling. Thats what I want to get good with. Seems like more of a challenge than a point and shoot. And regular fishing can get a bit boring too me though I enjoy it as well.

A sensitive subject, I suggest a search on "spear", "spear fishing" or "spearfishing" on this site.

I bet they come up with a license requirement for spear fishing as well!!

I would make an assumption that the verbage ( FISHING ) would in fact include SPEAR-fishing. I've not read the law inacted though. Doesn't it just say "fishing license"?

I would be willing to wager that the newly proposed fishing license does not cover spear fishing, but that being said ???

You would suppose that, BUT, since it does or does not say anything but fishing, then you could assume that someone could enforce the law as they saw fit. Again, I've not read the law enacted. You might look to see how it is stated.

AC, since this thread is about to be hijacked, I couldn't help but notice your postings in the last week or so. Why not just come down here, spend some time and talk to the people. I am all for research and enthusiasm, but on this kind of forum, you might not realize people will put it all together and get the wrong impression of you. I'm sure you have heard many adventures in paradise, get rich quick, live off the land...you name it dreams. There is nothing wrong with them. I plan to, thank you . Just have a lot of zeal about the move. I've moved around a lot since I was 20 (all in the states mind you) I dont even if I go down there for 6 months and hate it (which i dont think is possible) it still will be worth it for me as an experience. My money is all made online so I dont have to worry about working down there as much so thats good and one less thing i have to take into consideration.
