Hijack!

My wife and I land Saturday. We would like to snorkel at least once on the trip.

Between Hol Chan, Shark Ray, and Mexico Rocks; is there any differences in current, depth, scenery? We will be at Casa Bonita for somewhere around a week, and then heading out to Costa Maya for the rest of the trip. I was curious if it would worth it to do both a Hol Chan/Shark Ray trip and a Mexico Rocks trip.

Also, is the beach/water decent out at Costa Maya, or any spots nearby?

Yes, yes, yes....... Do both.

Hol Chan and Shark Ray are deeper than Meixco Rocks. You will see different fish at both locations. At Mexico you can stand up in a lot of the areas. At Hol and Shark it's a deeper but not scary deep. Anywhere from 7' to 25'+. (I know I'm a wuss when it comes to DEEP water).

That is just the kind of information I am looking for. My wife does not like deep water herself, and is not a strong swimmer. A vest will definitely be in her future.

AM, I am a very out of shape (ie over weight) 62 year old woman with asthma and I had no problem at either place. Last year we only went to Hol and Shark. This year we did both.

When someone ask me if I can swim my answer is is "I can....not drown". Not to be confused with cannot drown. LOL

To clarify.... Hol-chan and Shark ray are usually one trip, out near the reef. Mexico rocks is back off the reef some, and comprised of large coral beehives if you will. Both are great. my personal fav is the Rocks, just to float and watch all the life you dont see when you are in a hurry..... And the same can be said of "dock" snorkeling, just watch stuff happens!!!!
