I was just up at Ak Bol today - this is a wonderful place and run by great people.
Casa Caracol is also nice, small and quiet. These two are far enough north you would probably either bike into town or ride the Island Ferry.

Caye Casa is intimate and just a short walk to the heart of town.

Correction on that. Casa Caracol is just South of Caye Casa and you don't need a water taxi or bike.

You said peaceful, Go to Sunset Beach you'll enjoy it

Big thanks to all of you who took time to share their knowledge with me, incredibly useful!
We have decided to go to sunset beach resort, nothing wrong with other places recommended but it looks like the place that ticks all our boxes.
Not coming till summer 2010 so plenty of time to keep consulting the forum, sure I'll be back with more questions!
