Ah, that's it. I knew Tiger had a good swing, but wow! I didn't know his punch was that good!

when I have people coming out to the island and there are 3 or more of them it is cost effective to taxi to the Muni airport and fly from there. For two people it is a break even deal.
The extra payoff is that your bags are always on the same plane as you. Not so from international - I've waited for up to two hours for bags - especially if they get you on a plane right away.
I have used the water taxi a couple of times and it is really enjoyable on a nice day. I just like being in or on the water.
Also you get to start mingling with locals right away.

Hello Harriette - you have mentioned this bag issue several times before. You must be unlucky. I meet all our guests at the airport and in nine years I would guess I can count the times their bags don't arrive on the same flight on both hands .....and when they don't Tropic put them in a taxi for us. An issue for you North of the bridge but the majority aren't. So while the other points are valid in my experience this one isn't. By the way my experiences are with Tropic.

Also people need to recognise all arriving flights to International have flights to the Caye but Municipal flights stop at 5.30pm so any International arrivals due after or around 3.30pm could struggle to make the last Municipal flight if they hit any delays.

We went walking down the beach on our first day and asked a guy in a store who we should use to take us snorkeling. He called his friend and his friend picked us up on his boat and took us. It was the best snorkeling trip I've ever been on it. It was just the two of us and the guide. We petted sharks, saw a few turtles, saw three eagle rays, and my fiance had his hand sucked on by a sting ray. On the way back we saw several dolphins. The next day, the same guy took us fishing, he cut up the fish for us and we took it to The Reef restaurant where they cooked it for us.

Our guides name was Manuel, and he said that his parents own Manelly's Ice Cream Shop and you can reach him through the ice cream place.

I should stress that guides who respect marine wildlife law and marine wildlife and who are behind the initiative to promote Belize as a responsible tourism destination would not encourage or allow tourists to touch, molest or harass marine wildlife. It is expected that marine life should be safe from harassment and this includes feeding and touching. If you love Belize and want to respect the laws and marine life and help in its conservation and protection, please ask guides whether or not they encourage or allow this activity. I am well aware that well informed and caring tourists would not want to participate in illegal or unethical activity in respect to the treasured wildlife of Belize and they hold guides in much higher esteem, who inform and educate them.

i would recommend taking a taxi from the international airport to the municipal and taking a flight from there to ac. i am heading there next week and for two people, saved myself about $60 (including round trip taxi to/from the municipal/international). there's always the the boats, but the taxi ride over there is longer and we're flying in at a later time in day so boats are pretty much done running. i guess if you want to make it easier on yourself just fly from international to ac, but i'm sort of on a budget, so trying to save money where possible so i can spend it on the fun stuff. you can book flights from mainland to ac on tropic air and mayan air websites. boat schedule is cayecaulkerwatertaxi.com. Phil: Good points - except everyone says I am the luckiest person they know. LOL

CollyK - I know you live here and respect your informative posts. The only difference I would have is about interaction with the marine life. I too believe in not harassing any animal. However, the petting of sharks and sting rays seems to not harass them. The guides know how to approach the animals and then hand them off to guests. When a guest struggles with one of these then it is harassing. I have mixed feelings about the chumming since so many fishermen clean their catches and toss the scraps to the waiting fish and birds what is the difference in tour guides useing scraps to attract the fish? I open on this topic.

I do think the guides should give a little more information while still on the boat about what they are going to do and what to expect and what to not do.

I agree about the harassment. The regular tour guides seem well versed in their explanation of the right way to touch the sharks and rays. Getting qualified tour guides is the ticket. I know Alphonse always explains everything, even if there are people in the boat who already know things...I have learned stuff from him even when I thought I knew it all....there is always something to learn...
