The sad news has travelled far to Myanmar where I am tonight. Belize has lost a shining beacon this evening. I knew everyone on board this plane and I am totally devastated.
My deepest condolences to all those who have suffered this terrible loss.

We are so relieved that the others on board were not family as we first were told, was a possibility. We are sad to hear that it was one of Barry's employees and their 2 children. Still very tragic for all who knew them.
Our sympathies go out to all.

They were still (most of an entire) family, just not his family. They deserve our thoughts and prayers as much as the pilot does.

Barry and Dixie were at the SunBreeze pool on Wednesday hanging out with all of the skydivers. We were laughing, telling stories and discussing a lot of fun ideas. They had delivered a few kegs of Belikin to the pool for our group and were having so much fun. We were planning a surprise demo jump into the Luau for the school. I'm really saddened and our entire group is in shock. This really sucks and it is so heartbreaking that a young family has perished. Fly Free my friend...

google High Flight the poem. It pretty much sums up what pilots must feel when they " head west .

The poem, High Flight, has over the years become a mantra to pilots.
It is reproduced here as a tribute to, and in memory of pilots of all generations.

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

I am shocked and saddened by this tragic news. I never had the opportunity to meet Barry, but met his son, Kevin on my last visit to Belize.

I know that Barry will be greatly missed as he was a great friend to Belize.

My thoughts and prayers go to Dixie, Kevin and the entire Bowen family.

We met Barry 20 years ago and several other times since then. I am speechless, which is not the norm. Belize has lost a great treasure far beyond the years.

God bless Barry and his family

The news stories are not entirely accurate. Barry has 2 daughters and the four sons.

I visited Lady Dixie last night, and at the time her main concern was for the relations of family that perished.

I also went to the coca cola/ beer distributorship and some of the employees were saying that Sir Barry had hung out there for a few hours that morning, just chatting with the workers, asking about their families and telling a few jokes.

At one time (and possibly even now) Sir Barry employed the most people in the nation (other than the GOB.) So many people in all walks of life have been affected and touched by this event.
