i was too vague - not WHILE traveling, i meant specifically in overseas destinations. think you answered it.
i see they have different uses. the wow factor of the interface & apps is significant - lol nobody is wowed by my netbook. i think i got it - one is more fun, one more practical. i see it its the way things are going though, which is pretty neat.
response to an email asking about the lack of a "real" keyboard:
the keyboard is fine. Everyone seems to say that who uses mine. Pleasantly surprised.
I have been chatting with app developers and they are thrilled. Most apps are 2 bucks - 10 bucks. Very reasonable. Plus they are made by small companies generally and you can speak with the developers to get them to add features. I have had several features added by folks in just one day.
they listen. This is a real good thing for small developers. Ching ching. I have used tablets for YEARS. HP 1000, 1100, tx 2000. I never used the keyboard. That's the point. Use a pointing device (stylus) on the tablets. The most recent the tx2000 you can use your finger on. Its great. I love NOT having to have a keyboard attached. Reduces the size of what you have to drag around a LOT.
I have been playing with the handwriting aspect. converts to text. that along with verbal convert to text and huge for me. handwriting conversion works great on the tx2000, not quite as good on the ipad but the apps will get better quickly.
keep an open mind. This is not the perfect computer, none are. But this thing will evolve very nicely. And many others will clone it.
Hi Marty I'm a tekky off the island too but correct me if I'm wrong...1st Gen ipads dont come with USB ports do they? I was planning to purchase one myself but according to http://www.iclarified.com/ who usually testdrive the sh*t out of apple products says for us to hold on to our cash for now. How's yours by the way
I've been reading (in newspapers) of many connectivity difficulties, apparently a severe QC problem (typical of Apple). Several people are reported as having returned their iPads for refunds because the devices won't connect wirelessly, and of course the models being sold at present offer no other form of connectivity.
