My wife and I first visited Belize for our 25th anniversary in 2002. I must admit that Belize wasn't our first choice that year.
We were all booked and ready to head for Bali when those terrorists blew up the hotels there. Travel there wasn't recommended after that so we looked around for a new destination. Our criteria changed after that incident and we opted for somewhere in the Western Hemisphere and where English was spoken. Also Belize was next alphabetically.

It must have been fate as we've returned every year since.
The first year we stayed at Captain Morgans, the next few at Belizean Shores and then finally two or three years ago, when the Canadian dollar was at par or higher than the US, we bought a place at Cocobeach.
We always spend two weeks or so travelling around the mainland, sightseeing and visiting all the friends we've made and then finish up with a week or 10 days on Ambgeris.
No sooner than we get home again, I find myself yearning to return, enough so that I drive Joan crazy updating her on the news stories and storm status almost daily. I can't wait until we are able to spend a few months at a time in Belize.
