Yesterday we were in Belize City, on a boat parked along the waterfront near the Bliss.
A pelican was struggling in the water - he could not close his beak and could not fly, because he had a catfish stuck (stuck fast by its barbs) in it's pouch. Long story short - a group of young men took an interest. One jumped into the river and swam out to the pelican .... the pelican was eventually corralled into a niche along the seawall, taken out of the water, and after locating some handy-man tools, the fish was extracted from the bird's bill. The fish was a bit rotten already so the poor bird had been struggling with it to no avail for some time. The bird was immediately released and he flew off ...... circling us all for a while in the clear blue sky.

Yea, it was really nice. Makes me smile - and the pelican seemed pretty happy too.

Such a wonderful story! We hear so many atrocities committed against our animal friends that reading something like this warms my heart.
