I would think you need to talk to someone at B&B in Belize City.

Less you were going to buy a bottling facility, warehouses, hire a few hundred employees, buy a hundred odd tractors and trailers and sell your product for less than $50 BZE a case, there is obviously no threat to Belikin. If you were going to say brew it, keg it and serve it at your place beachside in San Pedro, it would seem it would be great, unique addition to the island... Oh wait, "unique", hmmm... forget it. Next thing you know they'll be unique entrepreneurial efforts all over the place, we wouldn't want THAT now would we.

Well, I'm sorry Jeff, I sure would like the brew pubs....well Datallmon, my husband, who loves beer would.
Unfortunately, all logic goes by the wayside in Belize. I can't tell you how many times I have come up against stuff that is wrong, or stupid. All I get in return is Belize is Belize.
People ask me for advice about moving here, and doing businesses here...everybody gets asked on the Board. Some are Pollyannas and just say everything is wonderful....go for it. I do not.
When I give people realistic pictures of moving here, and living here, they don't want to believe what I tell them, because it goes against rationally and logic.
You will hear sarcastic comments about the only way to make money is come here with a bunch of it. I really don't like the sarcasm, but it comes from what they experienced.
Sometimes this is a country that can't get out of it's own way. It drives you nuts! Americans who love the possibilities get the wind blown out of their sails. Unfortunately, it's better to be a little cynical in the first place, and listen to the people who have tried it.

Good heavens...don't you have to go into partnership with the Town Council? Or give them $2,000,000 or something?

Competition is competition, this is no different than most of your home towns. Why make it easy, if I sell Ice cream and you want to compete against me and my family; I am not going to give you the recipe.
Yaaa sorry , business is not fair or easy. You have to weigh the risk vs reward. If you plan to make a fortune, best stay home (not likely) . Most are here for the lifestyle, please dont burn your bucks and blame my home for it.There are plenty of peeps up there that have failed in biz opportunities and blame that (u.s.)gov. too.Failure breeds success for some, business is tough here and you need to enjoy it to make it work . And that doesn't mean you will be rolling in the dough. Just Happy is that so bad? J.M.O.

Customs refused a permit to import what? Maybe you need a customs broker. You need a permit from BAHA to import agricultural items and BAHA has a food security dept as well to monitor consumable products being produced or sold in Belize.
