We bought a time share through Reef Village in 2010 and the companies name is Interval Int'l. We were back in March for a week stay and found all of the sales staff was gone. Current sales staff said they were giving away the farm as far as incentives but a deal is a deal. If it is in the contract they should comply with the incentives they offered you. Contact Interval and raise some hell with them. Those ex-sales people are still on the Island. Best of luck Caleb.

II Is just a bureau for depositing you timeshare, not an owner of the place you bought.

OF COURSE REEF VILLAGE HAS TIME SHARES!
The last two buildings being built (still under construction) are strictly time share. They have sales people sitting in their booth by the main entrance everyday. Their pitch is "Help us out. We get $200 BZ for each couple we send to hear the presentation. You don't have to buy anything. Just help us feed our family."
Many many years ago, before anyone had ever heard the word TIME SHARE I got suckered into a presentation in Honolulu just to get a jeep for the day. When I wanted to leave after the presentation they had locked the doors. It was one of the scariest situations I had ever found myself in. I did finally get the jeep and learned my lesson; have never been suckered into a presentation again.
My sister and her husband bought a time share in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and paid yearly fees for 17 years. They spent the month of November there. I was able to rent the penthouse two bedroom unit for $500 for a week - just covered the maintenance cost for a family who could not use it that year.
After 17 years the corporation got into some legal trouble and my sister ended up loosing her business and almost lost her house (in California) over court battles.
Buyer Beware! It maybe a long a muddy road.

Before moving to Belize, i traveled to many caribbean islands. My husband and i ALWAYS went to time share presentations to get the freebies smile we thought it was great...still do. just depends on the time share company.

When i have friends and family visit, i actually send them to Captain Morgans for a day. I tell them that they will get a tour and $100 USD bar tab and can hang up north for a day. Very Low pressure sales, just a tour, and a nice lunch.

These give aways can be great, but i do think you have to look before you leap. Ask questions...NOT of your salesperson, clearly they have an agenda. Walk into any bar or restaurant on the island, walk down the street...ask ANY random stranger who lives here about certain properties, and then LISTEN to what they have to say.

Excellent post, Lara. I know people that make a hobby out of collecting TS freebies. I don't like wasting my vacation time with time share presentations, but my wife is enticed by the freebies. A couple years ago, after passing the same "kidnapper" many times over 4 or 5 days, I finally caved and agreed to do the RV presentation. We met with a very pleasant young lady. We explained that we were not in the market to purchase a TS but that we wanted to see the property, we might recommend RV to friends and we were enticed by the "free" week stay. All went well until the end when she had us meet with the closer. He got real real real ugly and we ended up having to walk back to town.
As Lara stated, not all TS presentations go this way. This was my 4th. 2 of the 4 went this ugly direction. 2 went very nicely and were low pressure. We purchased 1 of the low pressure 5 days after the presentation. I have heard that CM is low pressure sales also.

Glad to hear we are not the only ones having trouble with Reef Village. We got a timeshare from them back in 2009 and have questioned it ever since. We have gone through multiple people there trying to get things resolved, mostly with no luck.
Does anyone know how things are there now? I hear that there has been lots of turnover and supposedly the bag eggs are gone. Has anyone visited or stayed there lately who can comment on the quality of the resort?

dabears - the resort is very nice it is still a work in progress but the villa's and the condos are very comfortable to stay in. We have a TS and we are building a villa and have been happy. We bought the timeshare to vacation elsewhere and not feel guilty about not going to AC.

Caleb - Were you ever able to get things work out with Reef Village? You mentioned you were going in a couple weeks. If you are able, please let us know how things went and how the resort is now? Thanks!

We too invested and have been trying since December to contact someone. Received our yearly maintenance dues invoice and did not pay it because I had a question. Instinct must have 'finally' kicked in.

Have tried to call and send emails, no luck. I will be visiting during the summer (obviously not staying at RV)and plan on checking in to see if I can find someone who knows anything. Salesman who sold us was Rodrigo. That all aside, what do I have to do to claim this as a loss on my taxes? How do I prove that what we bought is now a loss? I would like to go this summer, prepared to get what I need to move forward.

Constructive assistance is appreciated.
