Today on the morning show complaints were made about the Be Kind Belize logo being offensive. The original complainer called me following the show. He did not know what Be Kind Belize does nor what the logo represented. The logo was designed in a fun way to instill pride amongst children in the natural history of Belize. So they would see the animals around them as part of their history and nation. It's a cartoon and was meant to be cute.
Unfortunately, this gentleman said he felt that the Belize flag has been undermined by the number of flags from other countries being displayed in Belize and that he was using the Be Kind Belize logo of an example of this - not really knowing what it was all about. He refused to give his name. He was very nice and I did suggest he submit an alternative logo.
Be Kind Belize would of course like to apologise to anyone who finds the logo offensive. It was meant to be anything but offensive and all of the feedback we've had in the four years we have used the logo has been very positive.
I am considering holding a logo designing competition to replace the current logo as Be Kind Belize does not wish to be controversial, but I'd appreciate feedback from Belizeans, in particular.
Be Kind Belize continues to offer free humane education in schools in San Pedro and on the mainland. If you'd like more information or you'd like to discuss the logo issue, please email bekindbelize@gmail.com.
