The tariffs at Tropic Air will increase effective January 1, 2012. The announcement was made via the company's press release. According to Tropic Air the increase is necessary due to the rise in fuel prices worldwide.
"These unprecedented and sustained high prices, which have doubled in the past 12 months, have left us no alternative but to follow our industry colleagues around the world, and implement a segment based fuel surcharge," said the company statement. The company said that the increase in fuel prices has been hard-hitting on airlines similar to Tropic Air that consume large quantities of aviation fuel.
The new cost (in Belize Dollars) for round trip tickets (Adults) from San Pedro to other destination are as follows: Caye Caulker $163; Corozal: $216; Sarteneja: $216, Tower Hill, Orange Walk: $216; Belize Municipal: $163 and Belize International: $282.50. The prices include Rider's Fee of $5.00.
Tropic Air says that if the company sees sustained lower fuel costs, they will be sure to pass those savings onto their customers. They warned however that further increases may be necessary if fuel prices continue to rise. "We cannot make up those increases in other areas. We do promise you that, as an airline, we always endeavor to give you the best value for money. We will be sure to issue guidance to you in any eventuality," said Tropic Air.

Local Airlines Increase in Fares for 2012Both local airlines in the country, Tropic Air and Maya Island Air, have announced increases in airfares that have become effective since the beginning of the New Year 2012.
The airlines credit the increase to climbing fuel prices around the world which make it especially hard on smaller airlines that consume large quantities of fuel. They have indicated that these unprecedented and sustained high prices have doubled in the past 12 months forcing them to follow in the footsteps of their industry colleagues around the world to implement a fuel surcharge to their airfares.
