What we do have in abundance on Ambergris Caye is Coco Peat.
http://www.ecopeat.com/cocopeat.html
This is peat formed from dried coconut Husks. We could round up truckloads of this stuff at a moments notice from this and surrounding islands.

I give Dan a lot of credit for not backing down to criticism and putting forth a lot of constructive ideas. I appreciate the Mayor being straight forward in letting people know that this is not a priority. Dan I do live north of the bridge but I am not a property owner and I am glad you are doing this.

As a builder in swampy areas we always used a "roadway fabric". Geo-textile fabrics have been used under roadway base aggregates for decades. It creates a stabilized base to build a road off of. We used to buy 1000 foot rolls and literally roll it out and cover it with crushed shale. You guys would be using hardcore which is crushed limestone. I know in wet areas when we used the fabric it would require 75% less material. I am talking about areas where you could sink a metal rod by hand several feet below grade, pretty swampy. We would drive fully loaded tri-axles over them right away (80,000lbs.) The good news is the fabric is dirt cheap here. You could have Hyde ship it down from Miami, if it's not available in the states. We used "Mirafi" brand a lot. If you use these types of products Hollywoods floating road idea will work really well, and you will not have a constantly sinking road.

That system was used by the Canadian contractor who built the sewage settling ponds and access roads. They had to move many heavy loads of material out there in a very swampy area. The road held up well and as far as I know it's still in good shape these many years later

Yes, my apologies. It had no sign of starting when we were there, and our contacts didn't mention it started, let alone finished.

Our plans kept getting pushed, so it's been an agonizing year now. Coming back in July finally.

Sorry for the irrelevant contribution LOL.

Just read a post from Marty about Belize oil revenues 75M in 2011, 2% of that would go a long way.

Hi everyone,

A group of concerned residents from Solitude, Kama, Bermuda Landing, Cloisters and Reef Village are fed up with the condition of the road from the bridge to Reef Village and want to get things going.

We are going to begin work on the Reef Village Road next week.
We have some pledges and donations to get started working on the drainage issues.

We need cash for gravel. If you want to contribute all your donation goes directly to buy gravel. The first section we are going to work on, is one of the worst and most used, from the bridge to the end of the Cloisters.

We will start by installing proper drainage and ditches to control the water then cover the road with gravel.

We need whatever you can donate - cash, use of heavy equipment,
backhoes, front end loaders etc. (we'll kick in for gas) Please pm me or email me paradisebelize@gmail.com if you wish to help out.

The motograder will be out soon to resurface the Reef Village Road. It was supposed to go this morning but the rain held it back. If it is done while the road is even a little wet, it will just turn to mud. As soon as it is dry the grader will be out.

Please pass the grader with caution as the noise of the diesel engine makes it hard for the operator to hear golf carts coming from behind him.

Some good news, Town Council says it is going to kick in with some hardcore and gravel.

They can't say when, just soon.

Too bad this work wasn't able to be done yesterday after a dry week! 2.5" of rain today and counting. I dread what awaits us tomorrow on that horrible stretch. frown
