i stayed at journey's end. it is a 10-15 minute boat ride (yes, boat ride) to san pedro. very quiet, romantic. secluded. gorgeous beach. but you gotta take that boat to get into town. has its own dive shop & restaurant, nice pool.

it was not the greatest place on the island, but certainly not the worst. very beautiful & lotsa nature there.

From everything I've seen and heard, Portofino is a very nice place to stay. Right now, even without seeing it, I would recommend it. From what I have been told, they are working very hard to make it the island's number 1 spot.

Thanks again for your replies....however, we are still struggling to find somewhere for the New Year period that is in our price range - I never realised how expensive AC was going to be around this time!!

Just to recap - we are looking for a double room for the period 31Dec-5th Jan preferably not in town...but somewhere with a good beach and snorkelling.

If anyone knows somewhere with vacancies, then please let me know ..
