Hello

We are coming to Ambergris Caye for Thanksgiving Holiday. This will be our first time back since last Feb. we purchased a condo then .
We need to open a bank account with one of the banks and was wondering if anyone could steer us to a reputable one, that can do wire transfers and international banking.
What documents would we need to bring with us in order to open an account?

Thank you so much

2 letters of reference, 1 from your financial institution in the states and 1 from your CPA is preferred & your passport if I remember correctly. We use both Scotia & Atlantic and have no complaints.

We applied for a dollar account at Belize Bank this past August. We had to have a letter of reference from our bank, and one from either a lawyer or accountant, plus passports. I think that was it.

The house loan is an asset of the bank that made the loan. The assets of a failed bank go to whatever conservator or purchaser or other overseeing entity takes over. Your loan will not be canceled and you will be paying another entity.

Atlantic bank has two banking companies set up. One if for those who are residents of Belize and the other bank company is for non-residents and non-resident companies that want to open an account.

It appears that the person who started this thread had a problem that is not typical. Can anyone say that they have had good success with Atlantic bank for a number of years?

We have never had an issue with Atlantic Bank... nearly 10 years.

Have had Atlantic account for 7 years, no problems.
For what it's worth, I'd avoid Belize Bank, nothing EVER gets done correctly.

Atlantic is fine - but there are some potential procedural issues in store if you are working with the international division. This division is not in Belize, the bankers work in/speak Spanish and any transfer of USD to Bzd even within the Atlantic family can take quite a bit longer than from Belize Bank Int'l to a local Belize Bank account.
That being said, the local branch Belize Bank is presently going through a reshuffling of staff and procedures, creating a bit of slow-down.
Until this recent set of changes at BzBnk, we've had nothing but good service there.
Many years ago we also worked with Atlantic Bank but when they deducted a hotel's entire payroll out of our construction company funds we lost confidence.
I think the point here is that both banks are pretty good. Neither bank is perfect. so - I'd go with the one that has the service package that meets your needs.

. Not sure if this should go on another tread?
I was contacted by Atlantic bank about my international account asking if I still wanted my account because of the possible up coming US law "Ex-PATRIOT", that takes 30% of money leaving the US. I understand it may not be put into place but Atlantic bank did call me to make me aware of this possibility.

I am a recent customer of Atlantic bank and have not had problems.
