This ad implies that a non-belizean doctor can buy / operate this private clinic in Belize. Has the Belizean government changed it's stance on private practice medical licensure for "non-belizean" doctors? I repeatedly tried to get a private practice license in Belize but was only able to get a volunteer license. I am board certified and have no licensure issues here in the US.

Misleading advertising or government policy change?

Too bad you're not Cuban. Seriously. This is a damn shame, but that's the GOB. I wish you the best in selling your practice and beautiful property. God speed.

I learn that my doctor (Dr. Lerida) is retiring by reading it here?
She has been a very good doctor to me.

It would be interesting to know if a US doc would be able to obtain licensure here now (perhaps Dr. Lerida would be able to assist?). As a FT resident on the Island for 5 yrs, I am not as impressed with the skill of the Physicians here or in the city.... The dentists, however, are well trained.

As far as I'm aware there has been no change in the GOB's stance on letting US docs have a private practice license in Belize.

I can come volunteer in a government run clinic but I cannot open my own clinic there.

I've worked on this issue for years with no progress and I had "connected" locals helping me as well.

A person responding through the ad trying to sell the clinic basically stated that I could first become a Belize citizen then get my private practice license.

I'm not sure that would work but it's not an option for me since getting a Belizean citizenship requires living there for a year. A year without any income isn't an option for me in the near future.

Actually, you can only get your Permanent Residency after being in Belize for a year. Citizenship requires five years!

Permanent Residency (PR)...which allows for working without a permit...is one year in country plus processing time, Citizenship requires 5 years. Optionally one can purchase a work permit...in this case probably US$2K which would allow working while gaining time towards PR.
