Thx NYK Seems were getting to the root of the problem, yet a decent road network would significantly benefit the Cayes income and thus GOB Its seems like a case of shortsighted politicians, the world is full of them

Larrypied and robvee you guys must be new to the island. Its a Confederacy of Dunces and your efforts on the message board to fix the road amount to mental masturbation. If you want to effect something grab a shovel.

Well, I know nothing of roads and how they are built but I like to use them and I own property North around Journeys End and even further North around Mexico Rocks. I don't think this is a road at all but rather a right of way for the electricity poles that are planted there. It just seems to me a good survey and a plan to put the electricity underground, setting out a proper easement, and then and only then putting in the appropriate drainage, substrate and whatever you call the top of the road (crown) with assiduous maintenance would fix the problem. I don't see why this could not be financed if necessary by a toll road system that was monitored and appropriate fees charged to heavy vehicles. I think most of the property up that way is owned either by foreigners or corporations and I believe if put together properly (without political influence peddling) this could be financed and accomplished. If I can help I will.

Hi Elbert. Yes im a newbie, but going to make the Caye my home. And just for info, sent a troop of Royal Engineers to the mainland back in the late 60's Grabbing a shovel would be ineffective unless to bury the Dunces, you'll find me a constructive critisiser not a destructive one. And to Captoneiron, im pretty much in total agreement with what you say, just think implementation would be the problem.

Yes I will be a newbie also. Maybe if we promise to name the road up north the Mayor Danny Memorial highway something positive will get done! Much nicer than a town clock. LOL

Fund-raising idea - grind up the clock, use it for fill - I promise to pay every time I drive over it.

I live up north (not far enough for Elbert's definition) and deplore the condition of the CART PATH ie EASEMENT. However, I question the efforts being put in up here while the existing terrible roads are being untended around the other areas.
How much is the situation north of the bridge being pushed by investors in the large developments? Those are the folks who got the taxi's passage and they are mostly the ones having big trucks with heavy loads of material tear up the roads. At one time we were told that trucks would have to pay a DAILY USAGE FEE.
Does the town board consider what is paid to cross the bridge the usage fee?
Now that all that money is being charged ($25 BZ) to taxi's per round trip is there an accounting for it?
There should be enough income to reduce or eliminate the fees for residents golf carts.
We were (again) promised transparency!

Im sure funds could be raised quite simply by fees for commercial vehicles paying a toll, but as you say, that money needs to be used directly for the use in building and maintaining a decent drained road. But all monies raised need to have accountability and not just disappear

Bravos to SPTC for the Herculean efforts they put forth to get the road where it is as of today. Some of you newer people(nothing wrong with that) don't fully grasp the dynamics between SPTC and GOB. GOB could care less about the road(or the island for that matter) as the island is part of the Belize District and carries very few votes. Though every argument about increased property value and development is very valid it is of no consequence/gain to GOB(property taxes, to the extent they are collected, inure to SPTC). I don't believe any truck/taxi traffic has any impact on the road as all the imperfections are not trench/track related but drainage, material, etc. issues. I don't have the answers but I'm fairly certain GOB doesn't enter into the solution...
