But the road is in FINE shape from Grand Caribe to the bridge. grin Rode our bikes on it today for the first time in awhile to avoid the wind and high tide. Smooth! Getting a bit dusty, though. In a few places, folks were hosing it down to keep the dust at bay.

Yes it should be in fine shape it was only regraded last week. This will be very interesting to see how long it stays Fine Lets see what happens after a few weeks rain and heavy traffic.

That's good to hear. We have friends in we want to take up north to the Lazy Croc. She has a bad back...is it smooth enough for her?

The road should be maintained for golf carts and bikes.

Let the water taxis and work boats handle the rest. We did just fine for years until the trucks started messing things up.

100% correct!! Couldn't agree more!

We're also HUGE proponents of the water taxi's, barges and work boats. When we had our wood delivered, we hired a private boat operator deliver it to us. The path should be for carts and bikes only. Plenty of places have been built having their products delivered by boat/barge, and that should continue, period!

Yes and there is also the vast vocational base of men with boats and boating skills in a fishing village where rapid development has disrupted their normal vocation. Using water transportation employs locals and preserves the romance of island life.
land taxis and trucks seem to only attract more migrant workers.

How practical is it to deliver building products to site by water, such as sand, gravel and concrete blocks?

That's how all the North was built, delivering by road has only been an option for this past year.

The easiest thing to do is put a weight limit on the bridge. End of problems.

robvee - sounds simple doesn't it? Where to put the scale? Who does the weighing? Who collects the fees? Where to the fees go?

Does not solve the road problem.
Unfortunately it's impossible to unring a bell or unscramble an egg.
