I can't even begin to wrap my head around how incredibly insane this is. And if I disagree with what is being done, I am labeled as being critical and not wanting progress. I simply know why the majority of people return to Belize, and what is happening here is not what they come back for again and again. I also can't believe that there doesn't seem to be any way to stop it. How can that even be the case?! This decision seems to have been made by a 'few' people, but it concerns MANY people. What in the world has happened to people's rights?

There are so many unanswered questions. First of all - who on the Town Board wrote and posted here? Do they speak for the mayor and the entire board?
Who owns the company that is doing the road work?
Was this project put out to bid?
Who is going to maintain this once it rains and we once again have lakes and mud holes?
How can they leave the 'road' many inches below the surrounding lots?
What can we do as a community of concerned residents?

The residents further North should get in touch with an attorney now because the damage will be done and its soon too late to stop it.If this goes to Costa Maya property owners along the way are sure to be violated. The next big issue will be where it goes through at Mata Grande. Watch how they doze through residents property to avoid spending the money to fill the low-lying surveyed road.

The majority of the "road" as it turns from the beach north of Indigo, is entirely on private property. Years ago, it was cleared piecemeal, bit by bit, mostly by private landowners as a means to divert the increasing amount of vehicle traffic from driving through their front yards / the beach.

The presently used narrow track behind the first and second row lots at Mata Grande runs on the designated and surveyed road. The current path is far narrower than the surveyed 40 feet of width, but the property markers are clear and the maps are clear and have been so for a really long time (more than 20 years). When the neighbors had this stretch of track opened, they had the dozer follow the survey.
I am told that the eventual "trunk road" is to be behind the next row(s) of lots, where the power lines are. Looks to me like it would take a bit of stump-digging to make that area passable, but the land is solid and dry there, so it can be done. Perhaps the TB is planning to open that? Could make more sense to develop the intended straight shot up....... rather than open the inner road and then have to go back and do the "real" one?

I agree, from what I have been told this is the plan, the work on the beach is just a clean up and done to allow the visitors expected for Easter to have access to beaches and resorts further North. I understand that eventually all the roads and easements will be opened and all property lines inspected to ensure that no public/government land has been built on or closed by property owners, this includes ALL beach areas which does not belong to anyone who brought beach front property.

I know what it cost for a bulldozer to open up the path behind Los Encantos (only 2 lots) in 2004, and all I can say is the town must have lots of spare dough, and that this project is suddenly very important to SOMEBODY.

People are speculating and starting rumors about why and who's doing the road clearing on North Ambergris Caye, if people would take the time to go and see what is going on they would notice that the equipment and trucks all carry the San Pedro Town Council logo's, that should be an indication as to who is doing the work. As to why, because it needs to be done, access has always been a problem and the town board is committed to open and repair all roads on the island, the road North is just part of the larger project, some roads have been repaired and upgraded in other areas of the island and making a start on the North road is part of this huge project, the clearing and widening of the road is the first step, it will be built up and compacted with speed bumps and drainage. When completed, all residents and businesses will appreciate the improved road. Well, most of them will.
