Back to the original point - there is a simple solution to vastly help the roads (until they are paved, someday). I have worked for a road dept. in the states. Yes, we do have dirt roads in the states - all the roads aren't paved in gold, like some locals think. You have to constantly add material (sand or hardcore or clay, etc.) while doing the grading process. The grader operator spots low areas and calls for a dump truck to bring some material to that area and it is graded into the road. The sand roads on the island are graded on a fairly timely basis when they are dry and we as residents appreciate it very much, but, if you simply keep grading without adding fill, the road just gets lower and lower and eventually becomes like a ditch. The shoulders of the road are higher than the road itself and the water can't drain off. That's why the roads are worse now than previous years. I know our island doesn't have quite the resources they do in the states, but our grader operator knows the roads best and where a little fill is needed occasionally and that would help the problem enormously. I hope this wasn't to boring. Class dismissed. Pop quiz coming soon. Thanks.

I agree with most of what you said, the problem is still finance, we would love to be able to stock pile hardcore and fill but it is so expensive. As for the roads being the worst in years I have to disagree, most of the roads still have a firm foundation, the heavy rains did a lot of damage and with the amount of traffic using them the roads have a large number of deep potholes, but I can recall a few years ago when a little rain would turn all streets that were not paved into mud pits that no one could use. We are expecting some hard core in very soon, then roads leading to schools and the Poly clinic will get priority. please be patient and we will do our best to improve all the streets as soon as possible, hopefully the heavy rains have passed so the island can start to dry as soon as the roads have dried we will be out working hard to make repairs.

I agree with Mike. I grew up in Oregon country with dirt and gravel roads with ditches. The grader always graded so the high point was in the center of the road and the water would run off. Why can't they do that here?
