Gas and Water are reasonable Rubbish is part of your property tax unless a business and again reasonable Less than US100 unless you go mad or have a pool. Electric is the big one. Multiple a/c units fridges freezers etc are the big consumers. I have a 1500 Sq ft Two bedroom rental home and electric alone runs min US$200 max US$400 per month when all a/c's are on most of the day. No a/c looking at lower end. Cable TV for US$20 is the best deal

Does anyone know why there is so little solar use for individual residential energy production. Seems an excellent alternative to the high cost of power. Is it regulated by the govt. for the power companies to maintain control of prices?

I think you are giving way too much credit to a well thought out plan by any government ... especially Belize. I would say you do not see it more because it is expensive. If it is expensive in the States and few know how to harness the sun I can only imagine the costs of solar in Belize. There are a few places on the island that are supplementing their energy use with solar but they also are not in the average citizen income bracket I would think.

Actually it's not that expensive any more. Just helped a friend set up a system with Chinese panels and he can power 2300 sf house in summer for nothing. At your rates this would pay for itself in about 5 years, then be free. Here it will take about 8 but our rates are less. Just surprised me to see so little use there. Probably not well understood...

Most things do not work after 3 months let alone 5 years, the salt air will kill them in time. LOL

Mitsubishi conducted extensive factory testing on its photovoltaic modules, simulating several tens of years of corrosive atmosphere equivalent to the salt deposit rates for both U.S. and Japanese coastlines. The company found that although the racking and other metal elements of the system showed weathering, the power output of the modules was not significantly affected.

I have lived on Solar for the past couple years on the north island of Caye Caulker for the past few years. Not many installers here really know how to install correctly. Most on the north island of Caye Caulker use solar.

The duties and taxes on solar equipment are only 19% (duties, gst and environmental tax). The biggest issue people have with solar power is storage. There are changes being made that will allow for individuals to sell electricity back to the power company. That makes solar more interesting because there is no need for batteries. The installation of solar equipment is really not very complicated and the electricians here on ambergris Caye have not had much issue in doing so. The key is the location of the panels if you are not using a tracker.
