My Understanding for US Citizens is that they will still need to have Health coverage under a US health Exchange, or pay penalties in taxes. I am considering a US High Deductible plan, with an in expensive Medivac plan. I can just pay out of pocket for day to day, colds and such. My main concern is Major Medical, or Major Injury. Just my 2 cents.

Go to your insurance company as they will will sell travel insurance.

Call Travel Underwriters they might write a policy for the US

I have my BUPA for US coverage, that has to be sufficient for US gov. I am covered.

We use Craig at IMG, he has been good so far although I haven't had any claims etc

JudyAnn made a great point which I didn't think about this year but will likely do next year. The premiums are much lower by excluding the US/Canada etc....

We are late 30's and in good health and our annual premiums are $900 and $1400 annually Worldwide coverage including USA/CAN etc... Deductible of $1000. Gold Plus Plan

The IMG plans are so much more affordable than BUPA... has anyone had to submit claims to IMG? How did it go? Maybe someone knows someone that's had claims?

It's hard to believe that IMG can offer that kind of coverage (including US and Canada) at such a low price and be able to deliver on promises.

We too just went with craig at IMG, gold plan high deductable and medvac coverage. We are brainwashed here in the states. You will get used to paying for docs visits out of pocket in Belize like you pay your copay here. Blah blah BUT.. Point im making is before we were introduced to Craig we had an insurance guy tell us that since we would be expats living outside the US for the full year, the required ram down your throat insurance did not apply to us. Not sure if thats true, we took img plan to make hubby feel ' safe and secure' in case something major happens and we did NOT exclude the US... One never knows. Gold plan, 5k deductable includes US at 202.00 a month family of three.

I really wish I could hear back from someone that has had a health issue and had to file a claim with IMG. (Sorry for sounding morbid.)
