Short documentary about the results of the introduction of wolves in the Yellowstone National Park.

Amazing that the re-introduction of an apex predator could have so many impacts on Yellowstone. Thanks for posting this.

Wolves were introduced their about 30 yrs ago. I was living in Montana then, took my boys on a snowmobile getaway about 20 yrs ago, we saw a pack of wolves take down a deer, incredible,, What is not talked about so much now is that all the Wolf packs are dying from disease, I just saw a documentary on how they are all dying from mange infestation, and with no hair they freeze to death during the winter, and with the park system they do not put out fires and they do not intervene with animal illnesses, this is so sad as they could throw bait food with the medicine to cure mange instead of letting so much suffering go on. Mange Has spread to some Buffalo herds as well. This is a not just Yellowstone but most all US park systems will not put out fires or interfere with what they think are natural occurrences.I have family that teach at Bozeman University..The wolf pack was not natural, we reintroduced them to Yellowstone with such n easy fix we should help. Excuse the wolf packs were there then reintroduced...why does mange wipe out herds now like never before, someone else has to answer thst...Bozeman University is questioning the environment of Yellowstone as uninhabitable to Wolves and the damage done by reintroducing them.

What's ironic is that the mite that causes mange in wolves, dogs, foxes and coyotes was introduced into the Rockies about a hundred years ago by government vets who thought that mange would help eradicate wolves and coyotes, which in fact it probably did, though most wolves were poisoned or shot.

The mites lived on after the wolves were eradicated and now is causing the problem with reintroduced wolves in Yellowstone and elsewhere.

Humans caused it. You'd think humans would try to solve the problem they created.

Didn't know that bison got mange. Thought it was just a canine disease.

I agree, I can understand the parks not interfering in natural disasters as in fires, floods etc,although I am on the side to do a bit of firefighting to protect our parks. Mange is another story, This reintroduction of wolves is studied by man and man should protect the wolves, its a simple fix to bait them with ivermectin lased meat. If other animals get it, it will do no harm, actually its also a dewormer and anti parasitical drug. Its also cheaper then shit. I do not understand the Bison thing either, mange mites are on all dogs, its passed from the mother and usually only pups with an immune deficiency will be affected. The only way I can understand the transfer is if they are denning together, Or Bison are giving birth in areas that wolves have denned in, or died in. Not sure if the mite was introduced, but wow, do you have more info on that,mange mites have to have a host so how could they survive without a host? And how could they be transferred unless infected animals were introduced to the community? as its now a natural occurrence for all dogs to carry the mite, it just dosnt affect most with full blown mange. Sort of like HIV. Did we start this infestation? Where did we get the mites from? I am the mange doc here on Caye Caulker, cant tell you how many scabby, skinny, dying dogs I have fostered. And cured all of them.
