I guess they prefer to visit unrobed folk??

But I will go ahead and be 'that guy'...

We were also burgled two weeks ago. Police were there in 20 mins (0.5 miles north). Took a brief statement and inspected my premises, and asked me to come to the station next morning for a full statement.

Police constable Carr, was great. Professional, polite and genuinely sympathetic to our case. He promised me to keep me in the loop with regards their investigation. They have done just that. I cannot complain about the service or personal interaction I had, and continue to have with the Police.

I've heard many horror stories from San Pedranos, and others, but credit where it's due. PC Carr, I salute you.

well police recovered one item ,have or had a suspect and seem optimistic about recovering more items
talking to one of the higher ups ,they seemed concerned about gaining the peoples faith in the police force
if this is the case all the power to them
heres hoping they have some more luck in the recovery process

jweber....Thank you for posting this follow up..... I have had the opportunity to speak with the Officer In Charge recently and the local Liaison to the public. Yes, they say the same thing...Even with limited resources they are committed to gaining the trust of the community as well as deterring or eliminating crime all together. As a community we continue to request, find, and donate resources to assist the local law enforcement.....We are seeing changes for the better..... It's simply a great deal of geographical area to cover for such a small force.....They are working on it....In the meantime on the South end of the island we have found our Neighborhood watch program to be quite effective....

That's great news, and it's good to hear that they understand the importance of building community trust.

Not so sure if that goes for the local communities too though??

It is nice to hear that the police in San Pedro are aware of the public perception and they are taking action to improve that perception. This is the first and most important step in making San Pedro safer.

The part that goes with this is the need for the community to acknowledge those steps and letting the officers hear the support. The police and community must build a team so that the criminals find it an uncomfortable place to ply their trade.

In my 26 years as a police officer I have NEVER heard a young/new officer say that they chose this career in order to make millions of dollars. They have all said that they wanted to HELP the community. It is the things that they see and their belief that they are not supported or wanted that changes their actions.

I am encouraged that there is the community support in San Pedro!

Welcome to Belize. I lived in Belize for a long time and got sick and tired of the crap. Being a constant target of thieves is not fun. Now if you pissed off the police get ready for a police raid on your house.
The police are a racist bunch who do not care. And the locals are just as bad but do not show it to your face. But behind your back.....

Been There & Done That . . . and glad to be out.
