For what it's worth, as we speak (on the eve of a holiday) the Dr at SPAH is working to save the life of someone's pet (feline) that looks as though it may have ingested poison.
SPAH was the only choice as SAGA is closed for the holiday weekend. IE, if it were not for SPAH, the animal would be dead right now (or suffering beyond description.)
I hope that all of the entities involved in the licensing process can shelve any personal issues/politics that may exist and acknowledge that the island as a whole is SO MUCH better off having SPAH running here. The long and short is that island will INSTANTLY become a very LESS DESIRABLE place to reside if veterinary care such as offered by SPAH is absent.
On a personal note, I have had dealings with SPAH on a near constant basis from their day 1. They've treated a dozen of our animals... bettered their lives... saved a few... compassionately were there at the end for many... have made countless house calls... and at every turn in the road were professional and caring.
Some of you may know our most recent rescue Elsie, a neglect/abuse case from Dangriga SO bad as to shock even seasoned vets here in Belize. Two weeks ago, as the final step in what has proven a REMARKABLE recovery, Elsie had her back right leg amputated at SPAH. Dr Trish's work was amazing. And the epitome of compassionate care? How about the staff of SPAH laying on the floor, holding Elsie tight... an unexpected amount of blood loss lowered Elsie's body temperature... to warm her as she slowly recovered from anesthesia, the staff held her tight under a blanket to impart their own body warmth to her.
This is the service that we will be losing...
That can't happen.
