That all sounds correct, but with the population what it is today..the only way to keep people from disturbing nature and wildlife is to police it...If you do not enforce the speed limit-people will not go slow...If you do not enforce J walking-people will cross wherever they want...If you do not close a beach for nesting sea turtles-People will go there. I wish humans were smarter than that..but they just aren't!

The whole world is a mess, you certainly can't run away from that fact. Our "paradise" is declining in an astonishing rate. I tend to agree with Dee that if we don't start somewhere on the island we are in trouble. Hell we are in trouble now. The simple fact that the masses are being bombarded with propaganda to come to Paradise will be only adding to what is already occurring. You can see the difference very plainly if you visit San Pedro and then visit Placencia....but then again I visited Placencia as a tourist and I might not have seen the dumps, literally ...

Ah yes, inforcement. The success of enforcing the speed limit on vehicles in San Pedro gives you an idea of how successful that works. frown

PS: I stand partially corrected. I forgot about the enforcement of giving parking tickets to tourists who park in the faded red painted no parking zones. wink

Education, we are all pretty sure that enforcement doesn't work!

Maruke, I differ from your opinion..these people look educated and they still waded thru the sea turtles to take a photo..but if a couple of police officers were there and handing out $200 fines- the beach would have been empty (except for the turtles)! ENFORCE - for the sake of wildlife! Soon there won't be any!!

This reminds me of the croc feedings a few years ago. Local boys were charging tourists to watch them feed crocs some chicken. I believe it stopped after there was both education and enforcement. Tourists can be foolish but locals show them where they can be the MOST foolish...
Again, it stopped (or did it?) with education and enforcement.
I give so much credit to the guide association for really making it clear to their members that long term economic stability come from protection of resources

Enforcement was and continues to be a big deal with the croc feeding. You can educate all you want, but when times are hard and there are economic benefits to exploitation, enforcement is absolutely necessary. I believe that the South Neighbourhood Watch patrol had a huge impact with enforcement in the crocodile issue down there.

Pamkillen and Collyk..I agree completely...Belize must enforce in order to protect it's valuable resources..or they will disappear.
