Probably going to be staying up north--is the "Palapa" a bar or restaurante or both? Just curious!
Thanks, teacher

A bar. However, they do serve typical bar food, sandwiches, hamburgers and I believe they do have a barbecue. You can get a good lunch there, not a bad selection, and the food is good. All outdoors, good view, friendly place.
Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt

We went to the Palapa a couple of times. Sundays are fun with the band jam at about 2:00PM. The location is beautiful, a great place to relax in the afternoon, waitress very friendly.

We stayed at Belizean Shores and rode the bikes they provide to the Palapa which is about 2 miles south. We used bikes for everything, Sweet Basils, going to town, etc. It was very easy, Palapa is a 10min ride, Sweet Basils 15 min. to town 20-25 minutes depending how you get the ferry. The bike ride is also very pretty, people landscape there properties beautifully, we loved it. KJ

In the past they have cooked any fish that my group might have caught that day. Don't know if that is still an option but it is hard to beat with the overall atmosphere.

KJ- Thanks for your helpful information...do you know of any closer restaurantes (ie--a quick lunch) that are within walking distance? I don't mind riding bikes...but would like to be able to walk the beach, too! Thanks, once again! ![[Linked Image]](//ambergriscaye.com/message/smile.gif)

Yes, several within walking distance by beach. Capt Morgans, Journeys End, Capricorns, Rondeviex (may only be open for dinner), Sundivers, and Caye Mart, a small grocery store that has good sub sandwiches. Don't forget BS will have a pool bar and restaurant probably open by the time you get there. KJ

Thanks....
I've sent a few emails about their restaurante opening..and of course they won't guarantee that it will be open for us. Sounds like they've been delayed a little...so, it will be a welcomed surprise if it is..but I'm not counting on it!
Is the "caye mart" a place to buy groceries?
Thanks!

Yes, Caye Mart is a small grocery store. Has snacks, great ice cream, bate for fishing, some meat fruits, bread, eggs, cheese, beverages, and some canned products. The Sub Sandwiches we got for a quick lunch that we ate on there porch, they were good fresh and about $5 US each. We got most of our breakfast items and lunch items there, but the one in town at the north end is much better. Caye Mart is however convenient for quick trips. Also BS has water, pop and Belikens you can purchase in the office. KJ
