We are making a trip to Ambergris at the end of August. Does anyone have a recommendation for someone(s) that do wood working. Or a store that sells Belize wood pieces. We are not looking for the generic wood pieces sold in most Central America gift shops. We were hoping to find a local who is turning out quality one of a kind pieces.

Orange!

Can you explain "Orange"?

Orange is the name of a shop that sells art in San Pedro.

Orange has closed up. No longer here. But The Gallery of San Pedro has about 800 wood carvings and 1400 original paintings (largest in the country), all from Belize. On Middle Street next door to the Post Office.

Are there any on island carvers? We have been going to Roatan for years and stop by Melvin's "place" every time we go.

I thought Orange had reopened on Front Street. Did they close down again already?

Hello Dave....There are lots of great choices for wood carvers on the island....And we have purchased some great pieces.....However, I was reminded (by ErnieB) that Carvin Marvin does excellent work.....About 2007-2008 we asked him to create two very large Eagle Rays.... They are incredibly beautiful made of Mahogany and still hang in the Restaurant. You can find him on front street just headed North before central Park near Atlantic Bank......He's very friendly and usually has a nice display of pieces he's already made. Reasonably priced......Good Luck....
