The breakdown of the 8 cases is as follows:
- 3 in the Central Health Region:
2 from the repatriation flight from the US and 1 from the repatriation flight from Honduras. These persons are asymptomatic and are in hotel quarantine.
- 5 cases in the Northern Health Region:
3 in Corozal Town:
2 came in through the Mexican border entry point as part of the repatriation process and are in hotel quarantine, they are also asymptomatic.
The third case has no travel history nor does she refer having been in contact with any known COVID-19 case; this person is a female with respiratory symptoms and is currently hospitalized. The contact tracing for this particular case has started.
2 cases in Orange Walk Town:
1 case in that of someone who crossed the border illegally, this person is asymptomatic and is being held at quarantine facility.
The second case has no travel history nor does he refer having been in contact with any known COVID-19 case; this person is hospitalized with symptoms. The contact tracing for this particular case has also started.
Out of the 8 cases today, the two cases that warrant in depth investigation are the ones hospitalized as they don't have any reported link outside of Belize so far. As soon as further information is available, that will be shared with all.
Please continue to stay safe all and do exercise all prevention measures at all times.

Two new COVID cases of unknown origin include one police officer.
Reports reaching 7News indicate that a constable in Corozal has tested positive for COVID 19 and is hospitalized and recovering. As a result all the officers at this station (more than a dozen) have been placed on quarantine.
The Ministry of Health says this police officer is one of two hospitalized cases which will require extensive contact tracing as they don't seem have any link outside of Belize so far.
Reports also suggest that police officers in Orange Walk who caught a border jumper on Friday may be tested for COVID since the jumper, a Belizean, has since tested positive.
Police Commissioner Chester Williams has urged officers to use PPE's, but our information suggests it has not been a consistent practice. For weeks, Police officers have been the first and frontline responders to intercept and detain border jumpers.
