Hello all, trying to do some research for a trip I hope to make. I'd really like to take my Mom back to Belize for what could possibly be her last trip, she has terminal health issues.
She is able to walk but does need assistance, uses a walker and sometimes needs wheelchair depending on terrain. I feel like the big airlines from Canada to Belize City will be accommodating to her needs but curious if anyone else has navigated getting from Belize City to San Pedro with someone with like needs. Thinking it might be tricky getting onto Maya or Tropic for her.... maybe water taxi?
Any tips or shared experiences with this would be helpful.
We have been going to Belize since 1992 and this trip "home" would be very special for her and us as a family

I'm betting if you contact Tropic directly in advance, they will let you know what they can do (and will do their best to help) ...... if it's a last trip, flying over the sea and reef would be a very special sight. There are wheelchairs at International - not sure if there are any in San Pedro. Getting up and down the stairs to the little planes would be the biggest challenge (but their are people and railings ...). Getting into a boat might be at least as chancy if not moreso, and for sure not as comfortable as the back seat of the plane. Bless your heart for making this dream trip happen for Mom.

PS - I spoke with a friend yesterday who had issues (broken leg) that put her in a wheelchair - Tropic got her up and down and into her seat, no problem.

We have made the trip several times, my wife can walk but is very limited. Tropic will take good care, as Diane said the stairs would be the biggest issue...
Note, many more stairs are involved on your arriving and departing flights!
