We present to you the celebration of " El BIIX" which is celebrated on the 9th of November, marking the day when the souls start to depart from this world. Many believe that Finados/Hanal Pixan ends on the last day of November.
In Xaibe Village, the Novelo family prepares a Maya delicacy known as the Píib. It is a large tamale which is part of the offering in the celebration of the Bix because the deceased can carry this food on their return to eternal rest.
In this video Mr. Antonio Novelo describes the process of preparing the Pib and why tamales is offered to the souls. The piib, wrapped and tied with leaves, works perfectly for the deceased to carry and take back to the other world. The celebration comprises of prayers, and lighting of candles on the streets and cemetery to illuminate the way for the souls.
