HELP = HELP
You help me and I will help you. First, (as they say on the internet) let me tell you a little about myself. I am an 84 year old Gringa who moved to the island 19 years ago from Northern California (Yes, I am a tree hugger).
I lived for one year above Manelleys Ice Cream and sat on the bench outside with the owner - Manny- many nights and learned all about everyone who passed by in their golf carts.
I was the first to put money down on the condos to be built by Chris Barenfanger and quickly got many of my friends from the USA to buy in. (I called my place Vista Mar Bonita) I got outvoted and the others came up with the original (tongure in cheek) name of Berrmuda Palms. We had a great community there just across the cut - via pull ferry. I lived there for 8 years
I joined what was known as The Chamber of Commerece and attended the weekly meetings. We were a very civic minded bunch.
I designed and a built big house (Birdland) in the Tres Cocos area which was considered the premeire residential neighborhood. I also joined the North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch and was very active. We did a lot of activities including building a police substation. We had potluck parties for varioous holidays taking turns hosting. I miss the comraderie we had back then. Eight years seems to be my cycle. Due to the loud live music I decided to move further north.
Dan, the new owner of the Truck Stop, has taken residence in Birdland with lease/option to buy. My friend Shaggy, the islands most famous bartender, told me I could live in his unfinished house and work on it in liue of rent. I moved out of Birdland, Dan Moved in and I stored 3/4ths of my stuff and went to work on Shaggys place. This was not a problem as I really do like to build. We brought in the electric line, breaker box and wired the whole house plus cable TV and internet. We installed sink and toilet in the bathroom and tiled the shower. We ran water line and sewer lines and got cold water into kitchen and bathroom. The problem is that he has a sump instead of a well and the water is not potable. We fenced the place a built a chicken shelter. We bought the wood and laid the floors and sheet rocked about half the walls. Just because I am using it I painted the bathroom and put in all the accessories.
The BIG problem was a misunderstanding. READY FOR IT? Shaggy is positive he tld me I had to be out by December 1st. If he says he told me he probably did - I didn't hear it. No way could I build a house between August 28th and Dec. 1st.
I have designed another house that I am eager to build but in the meantime I need a place to live. Do you have a dream that you thought would be ready to rent by now but isn't? Can you give me the kind of deal I have here - without the short time limit? I have all the esentials - furniture - pots - dishes - washing machine - stove - refrigerators - on and on. I have excellent workmen and good taste. I can work with you or without you - whatever works for you.
