The Government of Belize and the International Financial Services Commission have started the transformation of a merged business digital registry to manage domestic and foreign companies.

The Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry (BCCAR) and the Financial Services Commission (FSC) are pleased to provide an update on the development of its Online Business Registry System (OBRS), a world class web-based registry platform accessible from anywhere. The consultancy firm Norway Registers Development AS (NRD Companies), successfully delivered the first module which includes the following features: User registration, Business Name reservation, Limited Liability Partnership registration and the processing and verification of E-certificates via Quick Response (QR) codes. The shift to a digital and modern registry is essential to improve the ease of starting a business in Belize. This should support the formalization and growth of all businesses in particular domestic micro, small & medium enterprises (MSMEs). The initiative is also key for positioning Belize as globally competitive and will complement major upgrades currently underway in Belize's legal framework for regulating company life cycles. NOVEMBER 4

BCCAR will stop all new incomings under Cap. 250- Companies, Cap. 270- International Business Companies, Cap. 247 - Business Names and Cap. 258- Limited Liability Partnerships.

This is to allow the clearing up of any backlogs and process all pending services under the respective legislations to prepare for migration to the Online Business Registry System (OBRS)

NOVEMBER 18

BCCAR shuts down operations for migration to OBRS

NOVEMBER 28

BCCAR restarts operations- OBRS Goes live!

(Belize Companies Act, No. 11 of 2022 and Regulations will become fully enacted)

All services will be accessed via OBRS. The web address (URL) for OBRS will be published before this date.

Kindly note that International Trust, Foundations and International Limited Liability Companies are not affected by the above.
