The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH), through the Project Execution Unit, and in collaboration with the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI), advises the public that Goff's Caye is closed for visitation from May to October 2022.

Goff's Caye is currently under reconstruction, and as such, the island is off-limits to visitors. The temporary closure is necessary to facilitate improvements to the island through infrastructural works and other upgrades under the implementation of the Inter-American Development Bank's Climate Vulnerability Reduction Programme with the Government of Belize. Once completed, these upgrades will improve the visitor experience for both local and foreign tourists, and will contribute significantly to the long-term sustainability of the island for present and future generations.

Works include demolition of the existing pier, construction of a new pier, new palapa, new bathroom facilities and other amenities.

The MIDH and CZMAI thank the public in advance for their support, cooperation and patience during this time. The ministry reassures project success and its commitment to the people of Belize.

GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY FOR GOFF'S CAYE INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS "CLIMATE VULNERABILITY REDUCTION PROGRAM"

The Government of Belize through the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute under the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation and in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing held a ground-breaking ceremony for the Goff's Caye Infrastructure Works today, May 11, 2022. Financial support for the project is being provided under the Climate Vulnerability Reduction Program (BL-L1028) through a loan from the InterAmerican Development Bank.

The infrastructure works and other upgrades will improve the visitor experience for both local and foreign visitors, and will contribute significantly to the long-term sustainability of the island
for present and future generations. Works include demolition of existing pier, construction of a new pier, new palapa, new bathroom facilities for both male and female and other amenities.
Initial preparatory works have commenced with completion by October 2022.

Breaking Ground At Goff's Caye For Sustainability

We've spoken a lot on the news about the erosion that is causing southern Silk Caye to disappear. Well, Goff's Caye in the Belize District is going through its own challenges with erosion.

And, now, the Ministries of the Blue Economy and Infrastructure Development have combined their efforts to to begin infrastructure works. These works and other upgrades will improve the experience for both locals and tourists and will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the island.

Project Manager, Jose Rivas, explained that this project entails.



The island will be closed for 6 months while work is underway.

It will reopen when the project is expected to be completed by October. Financial support is being provided under the Climate Reduction Vulnerability Program through a loan from the IDB.

Update on Re-opening of Goff's Caye

The Coastal Zone Management Authority & Institute (CZMAI) informs the Public and Goff's Caye Stakeholders that infrastructure upgrades on Goff's Caye are within its final stage.
We are planning to re-opening as soon as possible and will make an official announcement once a date is set.
