Multiple teams from the MIDH are currently on the ground in Orange Walk assessing flood damage and coordinating an emergency response which will be activated as soon as the rains ease. If necessary we will deploy teams from other parts of the country which have not received as much rain as the Orange Walk District. We ask residents to be patient and to stay safe.
A flood warning is in effect for the north of the country (Corozal and Orange Walk). A flood watch remains in effect for the rest of the country.
In light of the recent adverse weather events and based on the recommendation of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) and the National Meteorological Service (NMS), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) informs the public that all class sessions in the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts have been cancelled for today, June 20, 2022. Schools in the other districts where flooding is being experienced are asked to advise parents and the Ministry on the situation.
The Ministry will continue to closely monitor all other districts for developments and will inform the public of any changes made to the school schedule. We urge everyone to pay keen attention to the advisories issued by the NEMO and the NMS, and to take all necessary precautions to safeguard health and lives.
