Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well, certainly, yes we have heard of wet drops in the south, this was about two weeks ago, I can tell you that the police did find two packets of cocaine along the coast of the Stann Creek district, one was in Seine Bite and the other near Hopkins. So, we know that there is a wet drop. But at this time, we have nothing to indicate that these persons that were involved in the latest incidents in Dangriga are connected to any wet drop, but there could be a possibility. We still can't understand how friends become enemies so quickly to the extent that one is taking the life of another, so it's something that were looking at."

And those wet drops usually come from drug planes - which are always flying close to Belizean airspace. In fact, unconfirmed reports say one landed in Belize last night.

And while we hear rumors of planes landing very frequently - for the police - they get tracks of planes headed this way almost every night. Today the commissioner says they respond to reports on such a regular and consistent basis - that it's hardly news:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Jules, I can't tell you two weeks ago, I can't tell you every night, we just don't report it because it's just a regular occurrence now. As a matter of fact, the night when we had the fatal shooting in Dangriga, the police had just responded to information of a plane coming and the officers who were patrolling Dangriga Town had to leave Dangriga and go respond to the plane issue. And so, the Town was left open with no police patrol and I guess criminals took advantage of the opportunity and it happened. But every single night we are out there responding to information of planes coming out of South America coming our way."
